Divided by Design is an independent project from the United Kingdom, intent on creating something unique and truly progressive. Recently, they won the Leeds Metal 2 the Masses competition, further cementing their reputation in the metal scene. Liam Stephenson’s virtuosic guitar and otherworldly compositions blend seamlessly with Tom Chambers and Sam Young's brutal rhythm section. Inspired by the likes of Dream Theater, Animals as Leaders, and Periphery, Divided by Design isn't shy about employing the ‘prog’ spirit of early Rush and Coheed and Cambria, creating something they, and others, believe is groundbreaking.

In 2020, Divided by Design released their critically acclaimed debut album, "Stages to Osiris," cited by Off the Hook as “undoubtedly one of the best metal albums” and praised by Angry Wolf Music Reviews as “a complex progressive masterpiece.” Their follow-up album, "Irretraceable Steps," released in 2022, was once again met with critical acclaim, with Progressive Rock Central calling it “an excellent, dynamic, and diverse instrumental prog album.”

In 2023, the band released their third studio album, "The Fear of Being Forgotten." Accidental Music Reviewer described it as “a progressive rock tour de force that may be heralded as a masterpiece in years to come.” The same year, they also released their fourth album, "A Canvas for the Universe," with Myglobalmind Online Magazine saying, “This album sounds like it could be a canvas for the universe to me. The ability to seamlessly meld time and space and make sense of it had me on the edge the whole time. I can honestly say that not many albums do that.”

In 2024, the band performed at Bloodstock Open Air Festival after winning the Leeds Metal 2 the Masses competition. Rockflesh described their performance as "nothing short of a masterclass in progressive metal, pushing the boundaries of what instrumental music can achieve."

Constant gigging and dedication to their music have allowed Divided by Design to craft a live performance level rarely seen among other UK-based bands, showcasing unprecedented technical mastery of their instruments along with an energy described by UKThrashers as “at times brutal, at times beautiful.”
